Calhoun connected with our ministry late in the spring and quickly showed interest in attending our summer project, Kaleo. Initially, he was hesitant to commit to something that would take up his entire summer, but after about a month of reflecting and processing, God changed his heart, and Calhoun decided to dedicate his summer to growing spiritually.

When Calhoun first joined us at Kaleo, he would have considered himself a believer. However, just a few days into the program, he realized that he had never fully surrendered his life to Jesus. During a car ride stuck in traffic on the way to the beach, Calhoun read through Revelation 3 and recognized that he had been lukewarm in his faith, never truly repenting of his sin or trusting in Christ. In the days that followed, he spent time reflecting, praying, and having deep conversations on the docks of our condo. After several late nights of wrestling with God, Calhoun made the decision to fully commit his life to following Jesus.

Since those few days, it has been no looking back for Calhoun. He has grown like a weed in the months that followed and has really grown a heart to impact the other guys in his fraternity. Calhoun is now helping lead a Bible study in his house and has been sharing Christ and getting in the word with younger guys in his fraternity. He is now exploring the possibility of spending the summer with an overseas team, combining his passion and heart for the nations with his future plans to become a doctor. We are praising God for the incredible work He has done in Calhoun's life!

When asked about Kaleo, Calhoun shared this:
“You will never regret spending a summer in Gulf Shores with Kaleo. No matter what you take away from the experience, you can expect to grow in your faith, character, and leadership. For me, Kaleo provided an important time to reflect on the direction I was taking my life. Better yet, it showed me what a real relationship with Jesus looks like. And that doesn’t even begin to cover the friendships, wisdom, and experiences I gained. I look back on my life before Kaleo and am overcome with gratitude for what I’ve received. I can confidently say that a summer in Gulf Shores changed my life for the better—with Christ at the center!”
