During her time in college, Shala has been making sacrifices to grow in her walk with God and help others do the same. God’s Word has transformed her and convinced her of her responsibility to share the Gospel. She has the same heart as Jesus in Matthew 9 when He sees the crowds and has compassion on them, because they are harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Because the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few, she is willing to do whatever it takes to be one of those workers wherever she goes.
Now, as a 4th year industrial design student at the University of the Philippines in Cebu, she is leveraging her thesis to put herself in a position to do that among an unreached people group. One of the 30 or so unreached people groups still remaining in the Philippines, the Subanen tribe, are located in Mindanao near Shala’s hometown. In order to begin reaching out to them with the Gospel, Shala is using what she learned in college to give a voice to the Subanen people through their traditional weavings and artwork.
As she lives among them, learns their techniques, and builds relationships with them, her biggest desire is to reach these people for Christ.
