Evan is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma from Frisco, Texas. Growing up, he didn’t spend much time in church, attending occasionally but never really involved. When he came to OU, he was excited for a fresh start and ready to dive into the full college experience. He joined a fraternity and quickly found himself swept up in the party scene he had looked forward to all through high school.
In the middle of that first semester, he crossed paths with a StuMo staff member. Evan was invited to StuMo’s winter conference, SMC. At SMC, Evan heard the gospel clearly and personally for the first time. The message of Jesus hit his heart in a new and powerful way. He realized the depth of God’s love for him and the invitation to live a different kind of life.
When he came back to campus, change was already taking root. Evan began taking deliberate steps of faith. He separated from using drugs, ended a relationship that wasn’t honoring to God, and started pursuing a life centered on Christ.
That summer, he took another step of faith by committing his summer to Kaleo, our summer-long discipleship project. The experience was transformative. Over those weeks, Evan learned foundational habits of the Christian life—how to read his Bible consistently, pray with depth, and take initiative to lead others spiritually. He grew a genuine desire to live a holy life that honors God and to leverage his influence to help others experience Jesus just as he has.
Over the past 12 months, God has done a powerful work in Evan’s life and truly made him into a new person. God uses SMC showed him the vision of a life of purpose, and Kaleo equipped him with the tools and training to live it fully. His story is a vivid reminder that college students are some of the most moldable, reachable and teachable people we can impact with the gospel today.
